job enterprise academy

Through its Job Enterprise Academy, Pro-Vision develops the workforce potential of our youth and their parents to help our local economies grow and decrease the burden on social services by moving people from dependency to a place where they can provide for themselves and their families. Our program taps the most abundant asset of the disenfranchised, their labor, and channels it in a direction that will benefit them the most — increased income and self-sufficiency. We do this by operating a variety of revenue-generating businesses that provide the venue for improving basic literacy, numerical and organizational aptitude, and interpersonal skills thereby providing the base for increasingly more sophisticated vocational or technical training. This initiative program is a tool for empowerment of the individual as well as those with whom they interact, equipping them to participate with others in order to create a good life for themselves, their family, and their com-munity. The Enterprise Academy program takes an holistic approach to delivering economic prosperity to participants by not only providing paid employment but helping participants develop a "moral compass" that will guide them through the social complexities of today's complex workplace.
"Traditional" employment training comes in several forms:
- Traditional Education and Training Institutions take people with minimal skills and provide them with the specific training or credentials necessary for securing a job. These institutions frequently do not provide longer-term support once the course is completed.
- Job Training Programs often provide a period of focused classroom based training before moving the candidate into the job market. While there are examples of exemplary training programs, the overall national experience with training and placement programs is not known for its broad-based success.
- Employers often take individuals who are already employed in their business and provide them with opportunities to upgrade their skills. This is viewed as an investment in pre-existing human capital.
- Job Placement Programs seek to identify unemployed individuals who, with a minimal amount of support, are thought to be able to secure independent employment during a relatively short period.
- The Enterprise Academy, on the other hand, bridges the world of unemployment and employment in a manner that employers, educational / training institutions, and job placement programs do not. We target individuals who are further back on the skills continuum and provide them with the stabilization and support services they need to succeed in a mainstream business environment.
