Development Director

Pro-Vision Inc. is seeking a dynamic, creative and organized Development Director who is interested in helping a mission-driven nonprofit organization. Pro-Vision Inc. has four core programs that create an eco-system to help transform disenfranchised communities by helping them lift themselves from poverty through access to academic, economic and social enrichment opportunities. Though many people associate our organization with the Pro-Vision Academy, Pro-Vision Inc. is the program and business arm of the organization and independent from the Charter School.

This position is responsible for working with the Executive Director and works closely with a committed staff for the organization. In addition to providing leadership on all fundraising initiatives including events, major gifts, planned giving, sponsorships, donor cultivation and grant writing, the Development Director must be able to think strategically to implement a comprehensive and results-oriented development plan. This position will also identify, organize and manage the fundraising activities of the organization with a focus on new opportunities to obtain ongoing and increased support from corporations, foundations and individuals.

Primary Roles and Responsibilities:

Planning

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive written annual development plan with strategies for donors and prospects in each constituent group including: individuals, organizations, corporations, etc. to be approved by the Executive Director.
  • Meets regularly with the Executive Director regarding program goals and initiatives.
  • Oversee production of all fundraising materials, including appeal and thank you letters.

Grant Request

  • Assist Executive Director with researching and writing grants for the core programs of Pro-Vision.
  • Provide timely reporting and ensure compliance as required by grant award documentation.
  • Develop letters of interest or inquiries, concept papers and proposals to ensure high quality, readable and consistent voice to donors and prospects that reflects our core programs and strategies.
  • Track existing and potential commitments, as well as all grant reporting requirements.

Grant Cultivation

  • Create and implement strategies for donor development and cultivation which will provide a diverse and sustainable funding base for Pro-Vision.
  • Keep up-to-date on current fundraising programs, practices and procedures used in the nonprofit sector and inform the Executive Director of items that would benefit the organization.
  • Identify and pursue new sources of corporate and foundation funding.
  • Build and maintain relationships with major donors of all types, develop strategies for solicitation, and solicit or coordinate the solicitation by other affiliate staff, board or volunteers, as appropriate.
  • Create and update collateral materials to support gift cultivation.
  • Develop and implement all aspects of direct donor mailing, appeal letters, and other donor mailings as needed.
  • Ensure that the donor database information is current and accurate.
  • Acknowledgement of all gifts and donations.

Events

  • Manage and oversee all Pro-Vision events.
  • Promote events to the business community as a way to support the organization.
  • Work with appropriate staff and volunteers to ensure that all aspects of a successful event are coordinated towards a common goals.
  • Develop and solicit sponsors for events as needed.
  • Attends events and activities and foster significant pride and excitement for fundraising efforts.

Knowledge and Skills:

  1. Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously with attention to detail and accuracy while adhering to deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  2. Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills. In particular, the ability to think creativity and produce compelling.
  3. Excellent leadership, management and decision-making skills.
  4. The successful candidate will be comfortable making pitches in person and personally on behalf of Pro- Vision.
  5. High degree of comfort working with technology, from database management systems to social media platforms.
  6. Ability to exercise good judgement and discretions; strong ethical character capable of handling confidential and financial information.
  7. Emphasis on accuracy in entering and retrieving data from database.

Qualifications:

  1. Bachelor’s degree and 5 years nonprofit experience with fund development and special events.
  2. Proven track record of fundraising success, particularly in non-profit fundraising.
  3. Confident public speaking and able to express ideas verbally and in writing.
  4. Experience and contacts in Houston and surrounding areas are a plus.
  5. Advance in PC skills and expert proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Donor database experience desirable). Basic graphic design a plus.
  6. Extreme tact and discretion, attention to detail and a commitment to excellence.
  7. Deep appreciation and understanding of Pro-Vision’s mission and the ability to articulate its values and vision internally and externally.
